What Difference Does Using a "Real" Camera Make?
Cellphone vs "Real" Camera(s)
“My cellphone takes great pics- are photos from a “real” camera that different?” Well, it’s time for you to judge!
For this, I took images with 3 different gear options (a cellphone, a beginner set up, and a pro camera & lens), framing each as similarly as possible. The images are marked by a different color dot in the bottom left corner.
Please note: aside from adding the marker and making sure all images have the same dimensions, these are unedited.
Phone (Black dot): Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4
Entry level (Pink dot): Canon T7i + Canon 50mm 1.8 STM lens
Pro-level (blue dot): Canon R6, Canon 80-200mm 2.8L lens
The point here is just to show the differences. If you LOVE that cellphone look, great! If you want something more but don't want to hire or buy pro level, entry level gear may be what works best for you (if you're willing to invest the time to learn how to use it well). If a pro is what you need, we're here for you!
Know your options, and choose what will meet your needs!
WHY COMPARE THESE GEAR OPTIONS?
1 Cellphones are what most people use on a daily basis so it’s a very familiar starting point for comparison.
2 The T7i is a camera that would commonly be recommended for beginners at big box stores like Best Buy. And this 50mm lens is often the first beginners’ “upgrade”. A lot of beginners swear by this combo, but they’ve also never really had much aside from a phone to compare it to. And, depending on what your needs are, they may do just fine…or not.
3 The R6 and 80-200mm are pro level gear. The R6 is a current pro level camera; the 80-200mm is admittedly an older lens model but still gives pro level results and is a very common lens length.
